Thilini Hemalal

Thilini joined Templeman LLP in 2026. She is an associate lawyer in the Firm’s Solicitor’s Department.
Before joining Templeman LLP, Thilini gained valuable experience as a sole practitioner and at an Ottawa law firm, where she handled a broad range of real estate, wills and estates, and corporate matters.
Thilini received an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree specializing in Law and Society from York University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. She received her Juris Doctor from the University of Ottawa, graduating Cum Laude.
While in law school, Thilini held several impactful roles. She served as Vice President of Communications for the South Asian Law Students’ Association and was actively involved in mental health advocacy on campus through involvement with Elephant in the Room. She also worked with the non-profit organization, REACH Canada, where she assisted in providing legal support to clients with disabilities across Eastern Ontario.
Thilini is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, the County of Carleton Law Association, and the South Asian Bar Association of Toronto. She also supports access to justice initiatives by volunteering with Pro Bono Ontario when possible.
Thilini is bilingual in English and Sinhalese and is actively learning American Sign Language (ASL) as part of her commitment to advancing accessibility and inclusive communication in the legal profession. In her spare time, she enjoys strength training, spending time with family, and surfing.
