Areas of Practice
Melissa is an associate lawyer at the firm primarily focusing on family law. Melissa’s work includes the litigation of parenting, support, and property issues, as well as negotiating and drafting domestic contracts like cohabitation agreements, marriage contracts, assisted reproductive agreements, and separation agreements.
Melissa completed her honours bachelor’s degree and her master’s degree at Carleton University and her law degree at Queen’s University. While at Queen’s, Melissa won the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association (“OTLA”) moot and the Bergeron Clifford Award for her litigation of a mock personal injury trial. Melissa participated extensively in the Queen’s Law community, including acting in treasury and/or president roles for the Queen’s Fertility and Reproductive Law Club and the Queen’s Law Student Academic Success Society.
Melissa is committed to engaging with the local community. Throughout law school, Melissa worked in the Queen’s Elder Law Clinic to provide Wills & Estates services to low-income seniors in the area and participated in the pro bono ID clinic to help low-income community members fill out and submit government documents. Melissa previously worked in Toronto with the Ontario Securities Commission (“OSC”) conducting investigative legal interviews, but she ultimately chose to return to and work in the Kingston/Belleville area due to the tightknit community she experienced here throughout law school.
